President Donald Trump has deployed federal law enforcement officers to Memphis, Tennessee, to address soaring crime rates and police shortages in what he called “one of America’s most violent cities.”
The task force, composed of agents from the FBI, ATF, and Homeland Security Investigations, is working alongside the Tennessee National Guard.
The move follows alarming data showing Memphis leading the nation in violent crime, with over 160 homicides so far this year.
Trump’s memorandum criticized Shelby County’s “Soros-funded” bail reforms, which he said allow criminals to reoffend easily.

Police groups have welcomed the action, citing low morale, overtime exhaustion, and a “no-pursuit” policy that hinders arrests.
Local officials, however, dispute the city’s image, saying murders and assaults are at multi-year lows. Still, union leaders argue stronger prosecution and federal backing are vital to restore law and order in Memphis.
