More than 300,000 people have been evacuated as massive wildfires continue to spread across southern France and parts of Spain, according to CNBC.
French President Emmanuel Macron is scheduled to hold an emergency cabinet meeting, while Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez plans to visit fire-hit areas in Valencia.
The report said the Gironde wildfire in southwestern France has burned about 42,000 hectares, while fires have also scorched roughly 77,000 hectares in Spain.
According to wildfire experts cited by CNBC, repeated heatwaves, prolonged drought and poor land management have intensified the crisis.
Scientists also warned that abandoned farmland and dense forests have created highly flammable landscapes, making fires spread faster and overwhelming existing firefighting resources despite improved emergency preparedness across Europe.
