The investigation on the June 12 crash of Air India flight 171 has narrowed its focus to the movement of the engine fuel control switches, according to reports.

A report by the aviation industry publication The Air Current, citing sources familiar with the matter, revealed that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and other investigators have zeroed in on the fuel control switches as a possible factor in the fatal accident.

The crash occurred shortly after the Boeing 787-8 took off from Ahmedabad International Airport, resulting in the aircraft plunging to the ground moments later. Of the 242 people on board, 241 were killed, along with 19 people on the ground.

Sources also told Reuters that analysis of data from the recovered cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder is focused on the position of the switches at the time of the incident.

A preliminary report into the crash is expected to be released by July 11.
