General Motors announced an ambitious technology roadmap that will reshape its vehicles into “intelligent assistants” by 2028. At its “GM Forward” software event in New York, CEO Mary Barra unveiled a partnership with Google to integrate the Gemini AI conversational assistant into GM vehicles beginning next year.
The automaker also plans to launch an “eyes-off” driver-assistance system by 2028 that will allow hands-free driving under specific conditions.

Beyond these headline features, GM is developing a new centralized computing platform debuting with the Escalade IQ in 2028, expanding its GM Energy product lineup, and deploying more collaborative robots (“cobots”) across manufacturing.
