Republican Sen. Rand Paul said he will oppose any U.S. military action to acquire Greenland, even as the White House confirms it is considering all options.
Paul said he would “do everything” to stop a military takeover, stressing that Congress must retain its constitutional authority over war powers.

He recently supported a resolution aimed at limiting presidential authority over military action in Venezuela, though the measure was blocked by Senate Republicans.
The White House said President Donald Trump is exploring multiple paths to secure Greenland, including diplomacy.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio has told lawmakers that Trump favors purchasing the territory rather than seizing it by force.

Paul said he does not oppose a voluntary purchase, noting past acquisitions such as Alaska and the Louisiana Purchase.
He argued any deal would require approval from Greenland’s population and incentives that make U.S. partnership attractive.
Paul emphasized that his objections are constitutional, not personal, and said debate over military authority is necessary even when outcomes are popular.
