Senate Republicans on Wednesday blocked legislation that sought to limit President Donald Trump’s authority to conduct military operations against Iran, rejecting the measure in a 47-53 vote.
The proposal, known as a war powers resolution, would have required congressional approval before further U.S. strikes against Iran. The vote marked the first major congressional action since the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran intensified earlier this week.

According to reports, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the military campaign could continue for another eight weeks as U.S. forces strengthen regional air defenses to protect American troops and allies.
The conflict escalated after a U.S. submarine sank an Iranian warship, prompting Tehran to threaten retaliation across the Middle East.
Missile exchanges between Iran and Israel continued for a sixth day. Regional tensions have disrupted shipping and energy markets. Officials report more than 1,000 deaths in Iran, over 70 in Lebanon, and about a dozen in Israel since fighting began.
