Israeli-American soldier Edan Alexander, held captive by Hamas since October 2023, was released Monday in what the group called a goodwill gesture to President Trump ahead of his Middle East visit. The Israeli military confirmed Alexander was handed to the Red Cross and is now in IDF custody.
President Trump posted on Truth Social:

Alexander’s release comes just as Trump begins his diplomatic tour through Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE. Israel denied making concessions for the release but has delayed a planned escalation in Gaza until after the trip.

The Hostages and Missing Families Forum urged renewed urgency in negotiations: “Trump’s plan offers a real path to freeing all hostages immediately. We cannot wait any longer.”
