A Massachusetts federal judge heard arguments Monday in a closely watched case that could determine whether President Donald Trump's administration can legally freeze billions in federal funding to Harvard University.
District Judge Allison Burroughs, an Obama appointee, has not yet ruled. The freeze, imposed earlier this year, has stalled major research initiatives. Harvard alleges the move is politically motivated and violates the First Amendment and the Civil Rights Act.

In a fiery Truth Social post, Trump labeled Harvard "anti-Semitic, anti-Christian, and anti-America" and criticized Burroughs as a "Total Disaster." He vowed to appeal if the ruling goes against his administration.
The Trump administration argues the funding cut is justified, citing Harvard’s alleged failure to address campus antisemitism after the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks.
