Herzog Responds To Trump’s Letter Demanding Netanyahu Pardon

Israeli President Isaac Herzog confirmed Wednesday that he received a letter from President Donald Trump urging him to pardon Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who faces three ongoing corruption trials.

In his letter, Trump called Netanyahu a “formidable and decisive wartime leader” and said the cases against him were “political and unjustified.” Trump praised Netanyahu’s role in recent Middle East peace efforts and said a pardon would help “unite Israel” and end “lawfare.”

Herzog’s office acknowledged Trump’s message but emphasized that Israeli law requires a formal pardon request from the convicted individual, which Netanyahu has not submitted.

The prime minister, accused of accepting luxury gifts and seeking favorable media coverage, has denied all wrongdoing.

Herzog also expressed respect for Trump’s “unwavering support” of Israel but reiterated his obligation to maintain judicial independence.

The move underscores Trump’s continued personal and political alliance with Netanyahu as both leaders face legal scrutiny at home.
