Top House Democrats are demanding the resignation of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Brendan Carr after ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show.
The lawmakers accuse Carr of abusing his authority to pressure the network into silencing Kimmel over controversial remarks about conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s alleged killer.

Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Minority Whip Katherine Clark, and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar said Carr’s actions represented a “corrupt abuse of power” and warned they would investigate. They argued that the suspension was a political concession to the Trump administration and a violation of free speech.

The lawmakers further claimed that media companies “bending the knee” to political pressure undermines American values and could represent a broader “pay-to-play scheme.” They vowed to use congressional subpoena power if necessary to uncover the truth.
President Donald Trump has welcomed ABC’s decision and previously criticized Kimmel and other late-night hosts.
