How Is The FBI Investigating Online Voter Registration

The FBI has begun seeking IP addresses linked to online voter registrations as part of an expanded federal investigation into alleged voter fraud under President Donald Trump's administration, according to Axios.

The report said the bureau recently obtained the IP address of a voter who registered online in South Carolina. State and local election officials complied with the request, describing it as an uncommon step in nearly two decades of election administration. An IP address can reveal a user's approximate location and internet service provider, though it does not directly identify an individual.

Immigration authorities have also sought voter data in other states, while the Justice Department is pursuing access to voter registration records nationwide.

Critics told Axios the expanded investigations risk undermining public confidence in elections, while the administration argues they are necessary to protect election integrity and enforce voting laws.
