How Is The Iran War Changing US Diplomatic Operations

The State Department is preparing for US embassies across the Middle East to operate with reduced staffing for an extended period as the war with Iran continues, according to CNN.

Sources told CNN that displaced diplomats may also be offered the option to end their assignments early. The plans are not final, but reflect concerns that normal operations may not resume soon.

Sources said that could prevent most families and children from returning to the region. Former diplomat John Bass warned that such restrictions could last months or even years.

Reduced staffing could also limit consular assistance and US diplomatic engagement. The State Department said it continues to adjust staffing based on security conditions and remains committed to supporting diplomats and their families.
