Ukraine has stepped up efforts to increase the cost of Russia’s war, combining long-range military strikes with recent diplomatic gains, though analysts warn the strategy could trigger further escalation.
According to CNBC, Kyiv recently carried out a major drone attack on Gazprom’s Moscow Refinery, causing a large explosion and highlighting Ukraine’s growing ability to strike deep inside Russian territory.
Analysts told CNBC that recent developments have improved Ukraine’s position. These include signals of renewed support from U.S. President Donald Trump, diplomatic momentum for Ukraine’s European integration, and pressure on Russian energy earnings from lower oil prices.
However, experts cautioned that Ukraine still faces serious challenges, particularly shortages in air defense systems. They also warned that President Vladimir Putin may respond with further escalation, as mounting military and economic pressure leaves Moscow facing increasingly difficult choices about the future of the conflict.
