President Donald Trump told the press after a meeting with racing champions at the White House that his administration would show flexibility in its tariff policies, acknowledging that some companies have been hit harder than others.

“You have to be flexible in financial markets. Because they change so much. The last few days have been glum. But yesterday, they say, has been the biggest day in financial history. That's a pretty big change. Some companies have been hit harder than others by tariffs, for no fault of their own. They just happened to be in an industry that is affected by it (tariffs). We'll look at them. You have to show flexibility,” Trump said.

He also lashed out at Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, claiming they lacked the courage to take on trade issues until now.

Trump emphasized that fair deals would be struck with all parties involved, adding, “They weren’t fair to the United States. They were sucking us dry.” The President reiterated his belief that other countries had taken advantage of the U.S. for decades, and this would no longer be tolerated.
