Private equity investment in defense technology is surging as governments increase military spending and geopolitical tensions fuel demand for drones, missile defense systems and satellite technology.

Meanwhile, defense startups across NATO and allied countries raised $27.1 billion through September, nearly twice the total for 2025, according to Dealroom and Resilience Media.

Investors are increasingly financing younger companies that need capital to expand manufacturing and meet military demand. Advent International has committed up to $1 billion to next-generation defense technology and deployed roughly three-quarters of that amount.

However, concerns about inflated valuations are growing. Advent executives warned that some companies are being priced on technological potential rather than proven earnings. Traditional investors remain focused on profitable suppliers, while limited exits and dependence on stock markets pose additional risks.
