Data centers have emerged as new military targets as the U.S. led war with Iran intensifies across the Middle East. Iranian drone strikes hit Amazon Web Services facilities in the United Arab Emirates earlier this week, disrupting banking, payment systems, and other digital services, according to reports from industry sources.

AWS confirmed that two of its data centers in the UAE were struck by drones, while another facility in Bahrain suffered damage from a nearby blast.

Iranian state media said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted the sites because of AWS support for U.S. military operations.

The outages temporarily disrupted services across the region as companies rushed to shift operations to alternative server locations. Some systems have since been restored.

Experts say the attacks highlight how digital infrastructure has become a strategic battlefield. Analysts told industry publications that governments may now treat data centers like other critical assets such as energy facilities, transportation networks, and communications systems.
