Iran's chief negotiator and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused President Donald Trump of engaging in "theater diplomacy," rejecting U.S. claims that negotiations to end the conflict are underway, reported by CNBC.
According to the report, regional tensions continue to escalate as shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb has dropped sharply. Vessel-tracking data showed only two ships passed through Hormuz on Wednesday, far below pre-war traffic levels.
The report said a draft Iran-Oman framework could bar U.S. and Israeli vessels from using the Strait of Hormuz until compensation is paid for damage allegedly caused to Iran. Violators could face financial penalties.
Oil prices rose as markets reacted to Tehran's tougher stance. Meanwhile, Trump defended U.S. military readiness, acknowledging some munitions are in tighter supply while insisting overall stockpiles remain strong.
