Iran warned oil tankers navigating the Strait of Hormuz to exercise extreme caution as tensions rise in the region during the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel, according to CNBC.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said maritime traffic must be careful while the security situation remains unstable. The strategic waterway has been effectively closed, pushing global oil prices above $100 per barrel.

Baghaei defended Iran’s attacks on Gulf nations, arguing that strikes targeting U.S. military bases and related assets in the region are legitimate acts of self defense under international law. He cited Article 51 of the United Nations Charter to justify the operations.

Iran has launched attacks across several Gulf countries, including strikes affecting infrastructure in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

Baghaei also said the country would rally behind new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. He rejected comments by President Donald Trump about Iran’s leadership, calling the decision solely an internal matter.
