Iran said it reached a preliminary understanding with the United States during indirect nuclear talks held Tuesday, signaling potential progress toward a broader agreement.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said negotiators agreed on general guiding principles that could lead to drafting a formal deal.

Araghchi said discussions were more serious and constructive than earlier rounds but warned a final agreement would not come quickly. He said the talks could help avert military action previously threatened by Donald Trump.
