The report said Larijani was a key ally of late supreme leader Ali Khamenei. The strikes come amid escalating conflict, with Iran previously retaliating through attacks on Gulf states and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Veteran Iranian politician Ali Larjani has allegedly been critically wounded in the same strike that killed Brigadier General Gholamreza Soleimani, the commander of the Basij forces.
