Iran Sets Conditions For Talks With U.S.

Iran has set fresh conditions for negotiations with the United States, warning that talks cannot begin unless Israel halts its strikes in Lebanon and Washington releases Tehran’s frozen assets.

Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf outlined the demands, stating both conditions must be met before formal discussions, according to his statement.

The development comes as a U.S. delegation led by Vice President JD Vance arrived in Islamabad for talks aimed at ending the conflict. Vance said negotiations could be “positive” but warned Iran against acting in bad faith.

These demands add strain to the fragile two-week ceasefire brokered by President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, tensions remain high over the Strait of Hormuz, where shipping flows are still restricted.

Trump has criticised Iran’s handling of the vital oil route, warning against imposing transit fees. The continued disruption threatens global energy supply and underscores the uncertainty surrounding ongoing diplomatic efforts.
