Senior national security officials have told President Donald Trump that the U.S. military is prepared for possible strikes on Iran as early as this weekend, though no final decision has been made, according to CBS News.

Discussions inside the White House remain fluid as officials weigh escalation risks against diplomatic alternatives.

The Pentagon has begun temporarily relocating some personnel out of the Middle East, a standard precaution ahead of potential military action. Officials cautioned the move does not signal an imminent strike.

U.S. forces in the region include the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier group, with the USS Gerald Ford also heading toward the Middle East.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei responded with threats, posting an image suggesting U.S. naval vulnerability.

Meanwhile, U.S. and Iranian negotiators held mediated nuclear talks in Geneva this week. The Trump administration said progress was limited and key gaps remain. Diplomacy remains the president’s stated priority.
