Nearly 200 media outlets across 50 countries staged coordinated protests Monday against Israel’s killing of journalists in Gaza and its ban on international press access. The demonstrations, organized by Reporters Without Borders, Avaaz, and the International Federation of Journalists, included blacked-out newspaper front pages, disrupted broadcasts, and altered homepages.
Since October 2023, at least 210 journalists have been killed in Gaza, making the conflict the deadliest for reporters in modern history, according to the IFJ. Critics say Israel’s tactics amount to silencing coverage of famine, war crimes, and civilian suffering.

The protest follows the recent deaths of several high-profile Palestinian journalists, including Anas Al-Sharif of Al Jazeera. Earlier this month, Israeli airstrikes killed five Al Jazeera staff in Gaza City.
Last week, five more were killed in a “double tap” strike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis. Prime Minister Netanyahu later called the incident a “tragic mishap.”
