Israel’s Air Force struck a building in Qom housing Iran’s Council of Experts, the clerical body responsible for appointing the country’s next supreme leader, according to an Israeli defense official.
The strike reportedly occurred as members were counting votes on potential successors.

The move follows the assassination of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in an earlier wave of Israeli attacks that also killed senior Iranian officials. It remains unclear how many of the council’s 88 members were present or the extent of the damage.
An Israeli official said the objective was to prevent Iran from swiftly installing new leadership.
