Israeli Naval Ships Intercept Gaza-Bound Flotilla

Israeli forces have intercepted boats carrying aid to Gaza and detained activists aboard, among them Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg.

Israel’s Foreign Ministry said several vessels from the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) had been “safely stopped” and that those on board were being transferred to an Israeli port.

The GSF condemned the move, calling it “illegal” and “not an act of defence” but rather “a brazen act of desperation.”

The flotilla, which set sail on September 1, is transporting medicine and food to Gaza. It consists of more than 40 civilian vessels carrying around 500 parliamentarians, lawyers, and activists, making it the most high-profile symbol of opposition to Israel’s blockade of the territory.
