More than 65,000 people in Lebanon have been forced into shelters after recent Israeli military strikes, according to the country’s social affairs minister. Haneen Sayed told Al Jazeera that at least 65,000 displaced residents have already registered at shelters run by the government.
She said an additional 10,000 to 20,000 people may also be displaced but are staying with relatives or traveling to safer areas while awaiting registration for aid.
Sayed described the situation as deeply troubling. She said many Lebanese families remain traumatized by the war with Israel in 2024, recalling daily fears caused by drone activity and explosions.

The Lebanese government is now trying to stabilize the situation while expanding emergency housing and relief efforts.
Sayed also stated that authorities have declared Hezbollah’s military activities illegal. She said the government’s long term objective is to restore full state authority across Lebanese territory and prevent armed groups from operating outside government control.
