Israel’s government has approved a process to register land in the occupied West Bank as state property, prompting sharp criticism from Arab nations, Palestinians, and European officials who warn it could accelerate annexation, according to CBS News and AFP.
Israeli officials said the move would clarify land ownership and resolve legal disputes, arguing it is necessary due to improper registration by the Palestinian Authority. The process will apply only to Area C, which makes up about 60 percent of the West Bank and remains under Israeli control.

Egypt, Jordan, and Qatar condemned the decision as illegal under international law. The Palestinian Authority called it the de facto start of annexation. The European Union also urged Israel to reverse course.
Israeli watchdog Peace Now warned the policy could strip Palestinians of land claims. The move follows earlier Israeli steps to expand control in the territory, drawing renewed scrutiny as President Donald Trump has reiterated opposition to formal annexation.
