Jay Clayton was sworn in on Monday as the U.S. Director of National Intelligence, formally taking charge of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence after his Senate confirmation last week.
His swearing-in ended the temporary leadership of Acting Director Bill Pulte, who remained in the role for an additional week following the confirmation vote.
According to a statement released after the ceremony, Clayton pledged to strengthen oversight, transparency and accountability across the intelligence community while ensuring it is never used for political purposes.
He also said his priorities include building a streamlined, mission-focused organization and providing intelligence personnel with the resources they need.
Clayton's appointment concludes an unusual transition period, as Senate-confirmed nominees typically assume office immediately after being sworn in.
