Russia launched one of its largest air assaults on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure early Friday, killing at least one person and cutting power to tens of thousands of homes across multiple regions, including Kyiv, Poltava, and Zaporizhzhia, according to Ukrainian officials.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky called the strikes “a cynical and calculated attack,” saying more than 450 drones and 30 missiles were used to destroy civilian and energy facilities ahead of winter.

Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed the “massive” operation, claiming it was retaliation for Ukrainian “terrorist attacks” on Russian territory.
The attacks left parts of Kyiv without water and power, with similar outages reported across the country. Ukraine’s largest private energy producer, DTEK Group, said its facilities were hit for the third time in a week.
