Russia launched its second-largest air assault on Ukraine since the start of the war, killing at least 18 people, including four children, according to Ukrainian officials. Kyiv endured more than nine hours of air raid sirens as Russia unleashed 629 attack weapons, including 598 drones and 31 missiles.
Among the damaged sites were a European Union mission building and a British Council office in Kyiv, prompting both Brussels and London to summon Russian diplomats.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called the strikes “another grim reminder” of the Kremlin’s tactics, while UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the killing of civilians.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky labeled the assault a “deliberate killing of civilians” and said Russia is rejecting diplomacy. The White House’s envoy for Ukraine also condemned the attack. Friday has been declared a day of mourning in Kyiv as residents grieve the loss.
