The White House’s rollout of a national AI legislative framework has exposed growing divisions within Washington, particularly among Republicans, reported by Axios. While the Trump administration is pushing for swift action, lawmakers remain split on key issues, leaving no clear path for passing legislation.
According to officials, disagreements have surfaced over children’s online safety, copyright rules, and the expansion of AI data centers. At the Axios AI+DC Summit, concerns were raised about vague guidance, especially on how AI companies should handle copyrighted content.

Republican leaders are divided on regulating AI’s impact on minors. Rep. Kat Cammack downplayed recent court rulings on tech platforms, while Sen. Josh Hawley called for stricter action, including banning AI chatbots for children.
The report said Democrats are also fractured, with internal disagreements over proposals such as limiting data center expansion.
Despite optimism from White House officials, political divisions threaten to delay any comprehensive AI legislation in the near term.
