Axios co-founder and CEO Jim VandeHei admitted that the liberal media has no credibility with the American people but stopped short of blaming the actual culprit: the journalists pushing leftist propaganda.
While speaking with Bari Weiss on her “Honestly” podcast for The Free Press, VandeHei discussed major issues that explain the American people’s lack of trust in liberal media. They claimed that through the rise of Twitter (now X), Americans saw through their “coverage,” the Covid pandemic, the “Defund the Police” movement, and former President Joe Biden’s mental decline.
What happened with Twitter is – people forget now [since] it’s a lot of conservative voices, a lot of independent voices – it was a hotbed of liberal groupthink for a long time,” VandeHei said. “And it was the first time since I’ve been in this business that I would get on a feed and I would see reporters who I had trusted, who I admired, making it crystal clear what side they were on. You could tell in what they were tweeting, and you could tell in who they were following and who was following them.”
“Then came along, kind of, the Covid, Defund the Police, word policing, where I think a lot of Americans were looking around going ‘that doesn’t sit right with me.’ And the way it’s being covered didn’t sit right with them,” he continued.
VandeHei said Americans could see with their own two eyes that Biden had lost his mental acuity and hated legacy media for the way they covered him. Of course, he never condemned how the press pretended Biden was fit to be president. Instead, he blamed “a couple of bad apples who make it look bad for everyone.”
The issue here is that it wasn’t a “couple of bad apples” that ruined the leftist media’s image with Americans. It was the majority. Every night, Americans would turn on the news to hear media blowhards tell them if they didn’t wear a mask, they would kill grandma, while in the same breath, commending the “bravery” of the Black Lives Matter rioters, who were burning down cities and destroying communities. And when the fad to protect those burning cities and the stigma of mask-wearing went away, they turned to protecting Biden.
What VandeHei doesn’t see (or at least won’t admit) is that it wasn’t just Covid or Black Lives Matter, or even Biden’s mental health that caused their approval rating to decline. There is so much more to blame them for: the Russian collusion hoax, the Jan. 6 narrative, illegal immigration, the economy under Biden, etc.
Despite the leftist media’s assumptions, the American people are not dumb or blind. We can see them taking the left/Democrats’ side on every current event. They jump to support every left-wing narrative, never learning their lesson that their credibility rests on whether they are willing to tell the truth no matter the cost.
It’s easy to admit you are wrong now that it’s socially acceptable. That’s all VandeHei is doing here. His organization and others like it will never change how they operate.
