Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is set to testify Wednesday in a landmark jury trial alleging that social media platforms harmed children and teens, according to CNN. The case marks the first of more than 1,500 similar lawsuits to reach trial.
The lawsuit was filed by a now-20-year-old woman identified as “Kaley” and her mother.
They allege that Meta and YouTube intentionally designed addictive features that damaged her mental health. Kaley began using YouTube at age six and Instagram at nine, spending hours a day on the apps, according to her lawyers.

Meta denies the claims, arguing that Kaley’s mental health struggles predated her social media use.
The company says it has invested in youth safety tools, including parental controls and teen accounts. Zuckerberg’s testimony is expected to focus on what Meta knew about risks to young users and whether safeguards were adequate.
