A California-based tech company has unveiled Neo, a $500-a-month humanoid robot that promises to handle household chores — from laundry to meal prep — sparking both fascination and fear online.
The 1X Neo is one of the first humanoid robots built for your home and is equipped with full AI software. But a company representative might need to peer into your home, via Neo’s camera eyes, to help get things done.

Developed by 1X Technologies in Palo Alto, Neo stands five-foot-six and weighs about 30 kilograms. It launches in the U.S. in early 2026, with international rollout expected in 2027.
Users can monitor Neo via a mobile app or train it for new tasks with help from remote human experts. The company advises supervision, especially around children and pets.

Social media reaction has been swift and skeptical. Many users compared Neo to dystopian portrayals in I, Robot and Black Mirror, warning that the innovation feels “too close to science fiction.”
Despite the unease, the product’s preorder video has already attracted over 18 million views on X, underscoring the growing curiosity — and anxiety — around domestic AI.
