Meta has unveiled a new line of AI-powered smart glasses designed largely in-house, marking a deeper push into the fast-growing wearable technology market. According to CNN, the new Meta Glasses start at $299, undercutting the company's Ray-Ban-branded models, which begin at $379.

Meta Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth said the lower price is intended to broaden consumer adoption and help position the company across different segments of the market. The glasses can play music, translate languages, answer questions about a user's surroundings and provide AI-powered recommendations.

The report said Meta's new Muse Spark AI model will power the devices, while existing smart glasses will receive software updates. Meta continues to partner with EssilorLuxottica for lenses and other components.

The launch comes as competition intensifies from Google, Samsung and OpenAI. While smart glasses are gaining popularity, privacy concerns remain, particularly over unauthorized recording. Meta says built-in LED indicators notify bystanders whenever the camera is actively recording.
