Meta Launches Muse Glimmer As Zuckerberg Pushes Open-Weight AI

Zuckerberg argued that broader access to AI technology could help prevent excessive control by governments and large corporations.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled a new open-weight artificial intelligence model as the company seeks to strengthen its position in the global AI race.

According to the report, Muse Glimmer is designed for agentic tasks, while Zuckerberg is urging the U.S. government to reduce regulatory barriers that he says could hinder American companies competing with China.

The report said Chinese firms including Alibaba, DeepSeek and Moonshot have gained an edge in open-weight AI performance.

Zuckerberg argued that broader access to AI technology could help prevent excessive control by governments and large corporations.

Meta also previewed a $1 billion Future is for Everyone Fund, which would support communities hosting data centers. The company cited Richland Parish, Louisiana, where tax revenue from data center development helped fund teacher bonuses.

Meta plans to establish independent oversight of AI safety standards and is preparing to release Muse Spark 1.2 in the coming weeks.
