Microsoft and Nvidia have announced a joint push to accelerate nuclear power development using artificial intelligence, as reported from the CERAWeek conference in Houston.
Microsoft Vice Chair Brad Smith said the initiative aims to remove long-standing bottlenecks in building nuclear plants, especially as AI systems demand more energy.
The partnership will develop end-to-end tools to simplify approvals, speed up design, and improve plant operations, according to a blog post by Microsoft executive Darryl Willis.

The report said the effort seeks to replace complex, one-off engineering processes with standardized and repeatable systems while maintaining regulatory oversight.
AI tools will help detect documentation errors, integrate data across construction stages, and enable digital simulations before physical work begins. Generative AI can also align new applications with previous permits.
Microsoft noted that Aalo Atomics has already cut permitting time by 92% using AI, saving an estimated $80 million annually, highlighting the technology’s potential.
