Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves announced he has approved the deployment of about 200 Mississippi National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., to support President Trump’s law-and-order agenda.

“Crime is out of control there, and it’s clear something must be done,” Reeves said, adding that Americans deserve a safe and secure capital. He praised the National Guard as capable of enhancing public safety and backing local law enforcement.

The deployment is part of Trump’s broader federal crackdown on crime and homelessness in the District. It follows the president’s executive order federalizing the D.C. police force and activating 800 D.C. National Guard members.

The move has already sparked protests as federal and Guard forces increase their presence across the city.
