The White House has accused Chinese artificial intelligence company Moonshot AI of accessing Nvidia's advanced GB300 chips despite U.S. export restrictions, according to the report.
Michael Kratsios, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, alleged that Moonshot obtained GB300-equipped servers and accessed the chips in Thailand to help train its AI models.
Kratsios also claimed Moonshot used knowledge distillation techniques involving Anthropic's models, echoing earlier accusations of intellectual property misuse.
According to the report, Washington is working to tighten export control loopholes that allow Chinese firms to remotely access advanced American computing resources. Proposed legislation would extend restrictions to cloud-based access.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that Chinese companies found conducting industrial-scale AI distillation or intellectual property theft could face sanctions and placement on the U.S. Entity List.
