Elon Musk is criticizing the Trump-supported tax and spending bill, saying it contradicts the mission of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which he oversees. In an excerpt of a CBS interview airing June 1, Musk said the bill “increases the deficit” and “undermines the work the DOGE team is doing.”
“I think a bill can be big, or it can be beautiful, but I don’t know if it can be both,” Musk told CBS Sunday Morning. He launched DOGE to slash $2 trillion in federal spending, but so far it has only saved $160 billion through agency cuts and job eliminations.
Despite being a Trump supporter, Musk is distancing himself from the GOP. In an Occupy Mars T-shirt, not a MAGA hat, he also told The Washington Post that DOGE has become a “whipping boy” for unrelated issues. The bill now faces GOP resistance in the Senate over Medicaid cuts and tax credit rollbacks.
