Billionaire Elon Musk has responded sarcastically to Republican losses in the 2026 US midterm elections after spending approximately $250 million supporting GOP campaigns.
On Wednesday, Musk joked on X that his supposed "election-interfering space lasers" had failed, following Democratic victories that gave the party control of Congress, with 233 House seats and 54 Senate seats.
Despite Musk's financial backing, Democrat James Talarico defeated Republican Ken Paxton in the Texas Senate race, marking a significant breakthrough for Democrats in a traditionally conservative state.
Musk also suggested that space-based data centres could become more attractive amid uncertainty over future AI and infrastructure regulations, posting that they were looking increasingly appealing.
