Elon Musk donated $158 million to Republican-aligned political groups supporting the GOP in Texas’s closely contested Senate race, according to campaign finance filings reported by CNN.

The filings show Musk gave $75 million and $83 million to the Senate Leadership Fund in September. The super PAC transferred matching amounts to Texas PAC the following days. The group supports Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in his contest against Democrat James Talarico.

Texas PAC spent more than $77 million on advertising in September and is expected to spend nearly $160 million backing Paxton through Election Day. The race is among the most closely watched contests ahead of the 2026 midterms.

Talarico’s campaign reported raising a record $64 million in the third quarter, bringing his total fundraising above $134.3 million. Paxton raised $18 million during the quarter.

Despite Talarico’s fundraising lead, Republican groups maintain a substantial advantage in advertising expenditure, while recent polls show no clear frontrunner.
