Nashville International Airport could soon be renamed Dolly Parton International Airport, with the Metro Nashville Airport Authority Board expected to vote Friday on a proposal backed by more than 175,000 petition signatures.
Officials estimate the renaming project would cost between $8 million and $10 million, funded through Metro, state and airport resources.
If approved, the administrative process with the Federal Aviation Administration would begin, with the full transition expected to take six months to a year.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee and Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell have supported the proposal, while Parton’s family and foundation also appear to back the effort.
The planned renaming would honor the Tennessee-born singer and philanthropist’s longstanding connection to the state and Nashville.
