West Virginia has declared a statewide state of emergency after severe storms unleashed catastrophic flooding, landslides, and widespread damage to homes, roads, and other infrastructure.
Governor Patrick Morrisey issued the emergency declaration for all 55 counties as rescue and recovery efforts intensified.
The report said roughly 110,000 customers lost power on Tuesday evening. Emergency crews carried out at least 33 water rescues, while rising floodwaters forced the closure of Interstate 79.
Around 300 members of the West Virginia National Guard began deploying to the worst-hit communities on Wednesday, with more troops expected to follow.
Governor Morrisey has asked President Donald Trump to approve a Major Disaster Declaration to unlock federal assistance for affected families.
