Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday ordered the military to launch “immediate, powerful” strikes in Gaza, according to a statement from his office.

The directive followed a security consultation amid rising tensions with Hamas, which Israel accused of violating the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Earlier, Netanyahu’s office said Hamas had returned remains to Israel that did not match any of the 13 hostages still unaccounted for, prompting the latest escalation.
