New Democratic Proposal Aims To Break Shutdown Deadlock

Senate Democrats have sent a new counteroffer to President Donald Trump’s administration to end the ongoing Department of Homeland Security shutdown, reported by CNBC.

The shutdown, in effect since February 14, stems from a standoff over immigration enforcement policies. According to the report, Democrats are demanding changes after two U.S. citizens were killed by DHS officers in Minneapolis. Negotiations have continued for over a month without a breakthrough.

Details of the latest proposal remain undisclosed, and the White House has not yet responded.

The report said the shutdown has begun to impact airport operations. Transportation Security Administration staff are working without pay, with rising absenteeism and resignations. This has led to long security lines and delays for travelers.

While many DHS functions continue due to their essential status, the funding lapse is increasing pressure on both sides to reach a deal.
