Former President Barack Obama clarified remarks about aliens after comments from a recent podcast interview spread widely online, prompting speculation about extraterrestrial contact.
Obama made the remarks during a lighthearted speed round on a podcast hosted by Brian Tyler Cohen, where he jokingly said aliens were “real” but added he had never seen evidence of them. The exchange was widely shared on social media and interpreted by some as confirmation of alien contact.
Great sitting down with @BrianTylerCohen to talk about everything from the courage we saw in Minnesota, to how Democrats can be true to our values and get stuff done, to how we’re building a community of changemakers at the @ObamaFoundation. https://t.co/xyskxKbM8n pic.twitter.com/E02yOaHezK

In a statement posted on Instagram, Obama said his response was meant in jest.
He stressed that while the vast size of the universe makes the existence of life elsewhere plausible, there is no evidence aliens have visited Earth. He said no such evidence surfaced during his time in office.
Obama also dismissed long-running conspiracy theories tied to Area 51, saying there is no secret government facility hiding aliens. He reiterated that unexplained aerial objects deserve study but are not proof of extraterrestrial contact.
