Organizers of the 2026 Winter Olympics said they are investigating reports that several medals awarded to athletes have broken, calling the matter serious and limited in scope, according to CBS News.

U.S. figure skater Alysa Liu also shared a video showing her team gold medal detached from its ribbon. Other athletes said they were handling their medals cautiously to avoid damage.
Similar issues were reported by international competitors. German biathlete Justus Strelow was seen trying to reattach his bronze medal after it fell to the ground.
Swedish media reported that cross-country skier Ebba Andersson’s silver medal split in two after dropping in the snow, according to Reuters.
The Milan-Cortina organizing committee said it is aware of the issue and is reviewing how the medals were produced. Officials stressed they recognize the symbolic importance of Olympic medals and are working on a solution.
