More than 400 actors, musicians, and entertainers have signed an open letter organized by the ACLU defending Jimmy Kimmel after his late-night show was suspended by ABC. Signatories include Jennifer Aniston, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro, Jane Fonda, and Natalie Portman, among others.
The letter denounces “government threats to our freedom of speech,” referencing FCC Chair Brendan Carr, a Trump appointee, who pressured Disney/ABC after Kimmel made remarks about a conservative activist’s alleged killer. Several ABC affiliates soon dropped the program, leading to its indefinite suspension.
