The Pentagon has awarded Oracle a nearly $7 billion, 10-year contract to consolidate on-premises software licences across the U.S. military, Coast Guard and intelligence community into a single enterprise-wide agreement.
According to the report, the initiative is designed to streamline software procurement, reduce duplication and improve efficiency across defence agencies.
The report said the consolidation was launched by Pentagon Chief Information Officer Kirsten Davies and follows a similar enterprise software agreement signed with Microsoft earlier this year.
Officials estimate the Oracle contract will generate at least $441 million in savings by eliminating fragmented purchasing and simplifying licence management.
According to the report, the contract comes as Oracle continues to expand its cloud business despite investor concerns over the impact of artificial intelligence on traditional software companies.
The company's cloud revenue has continued to grow as it provides computing infrastructure for OpenAI.
